Magnificent story! I read it in Axxon and I was shocked. The rhythm, the characters, the plot, and the style: I like it all. “On the many uses of cedar” shows a mature and creative way of thinking, is definitely the kind of science fiction that I want to read every day. If there is a place for a friendly bet, I bet for an Hugo Award to Cole very soon… Good luck!
